शबरी एक वृद्ध भिल्ल-स्त्री थीं जो दंडकारण्य में महर्षि मतंग के आश्रम में रहती थीं। उनके गुरु के वचन पर वे वर्षों से राम की प्रतीक्षा कर रही थीं। जब राम आए, उन्होंने प्रेम से चखे हुए बेर अर्पण किए। राम ने प्रसन्नता से ग्रहण किए। इसके बाद राम ने उन्हें स्वयं नवधा भक्ति का ज्ञान दिया। Shabari was an aged woman of the Bheel tribe who lived at sage Matanga's ashram in Dandakaranya. On her teacher's word she had waited for Rama for years. When Rama arrived, she offered berries she had tasted for sweetness. Rama accepted them with joy. He then gave her the teaching of navadha bhakti.

निर्भर्त्स्य वाक्यानि शुभान्यभाषत ॥
भावार्थ - तब जटायु ने तीखे नखों और पंखों से युद्ध में उस राक्षसराज रावण को व्याकुल करते हुए, कठोर शब्दों में फटकारकर शुभ वचन कहे। Meaning - Then Jatayu, having shaken Ravana with his sharp talons and wings in battle, rebuked him with harsh words and spoke righteous counsel.

जब रावण माता सीता का हरण कर आकाश मार्ग से ले जा रहा था, तब जटायु ने उसे देखा। वृद्ध होते हुए भी उन्होंने रावण से युद्ध किया - उसका रथ तोड़ा, सारथी को घायल किया। पर रावण ने जटायु के पंख काट दिए। वे धरती पर गिर पड़े। मरणासन्न जटायु ने राम को बताया - "रावण सीता को दक्षिण ले गया।" राम ने कहा - "आज मैंने पिता समान मित्र खोया।" और स्वयं उनका अंतिम संस्कार किया। When Ravana was abducting Maa Sita through the sky, Jatayu saw him. Though old, he fought Ravana - broke his chariot, wounded his charioteer. But Ravana cut Jatayu's wings. He fell to earth. Near death, Jatayu told Rama, "Ravana took Sita to the south." Rama said, "Today I have lost a friend like a father." And he himself performed Jatayu's last rites.

राम की सेना समुद्र के किनारे थी, लंका सामने थी। समुद्र देव की प्रार्थना के बाद ज्ञात हुआ कि नल और नील नामक वानर ऐसे थे जिनके हाथ से छुआ पत्थर पानी पर तैरता था। पूरी सेना ने मिलकर पाँच दिन में सेतु बनाया। शिलाओं पर "राम" नाम लिखकर समुद्र में डाला गया - और वे तैरने लगीं। एक छोटी गिलहरी ने भी रेत लाकर सहयोग किया। राम ने प्रेम से उसकी पीठ थपथपाई। Rama's army stood at the seashore with Lanka before them. After praying to the ocean deity, it was revealed that two monkeys, Nala and Nila, had a boon - any stone they touched would float. The entire army worked together for five days to build the bridge. Boulders inscribed with "Rama" were placed in the ocean - and they floated. A tiny squirrel also helped by carrying sand. Rama lovingly stroked her back.

भावार्थ - वे दोनों रथी (राम और रावण), जो इंद्र के समान दुर्जय थे, एक-दूसरे को देखते हुए युद्ध की अभिलाषा से खड़े हो गए। Meaning - Those two chariot-warriors (Rama and Ravana), formidable as Indra himself, stood facing each other, both eager for the final battle.

महायुद्ध में रावण के सभी शस्त्र विफल हो गए। राम ने विभीषण से पूछा कि रावण को कैसे मारा जाए। विभीषण ने बताया - रावण की नाभि में अमृत है। राम ने दिव्य ब्रह्मास्त्र का संधान किया - वह बाण सूर्य से तेज लेकर, वायु से बल लेकर, अग्नि के तेज से दीप्त था। उसने रावण के वक्षस्थल को भेद दिया। रावण धरती पर गिरा। देवताओं ने पुष्पवर्षा की। धर्म की जय हुई। In the great battle, all of Ravana's weapons failed. Rama asked Vibhishana how Ravana could be slain. Vibhishana revealed - Ravana's life force lies in his navel. Rama invoked the divine Brahmastra - an arrow that drew power from the sun, force from the wind, and radiance from fire. It pierced Ravana's chest. Ravana fell to earth. The gods showered flowers. Dharma had triumphed.

जब पार्वतीजी शिवजी को पति रूप में पाने के लिए घोर तप कर रही थीं, श्रीरामजी ने स्वयं सप्तर्षियों को उनकी प्रेम-परीक्षा लेने भेजा। यह प्रसंग दिखाता है कि सच्ची भक्ति किसी भी तर्क, भय या प्रलोभन से विचलित नहीं होती। While Parvati performed intense penance to attain Shiva as her husband, Rama himself sent the Seven Sages to test the depth of her love. भावार्थ - पार्वतीजी सप्तर्षियों से दृढ़ता से कहती हैं: करोड़ों जन्मों तक मेरा यही हठ रहेगा - या तो शिवजी को वरूँगी, नहीं तो कुँवारी ही रहूँगी। Meaning - Parvati declares to the Seven Sages with firm resolve: For a hundred million births this shall be my vow - I will marry Shiva, or remain unmarried forever.

नारदजी के उपदेश पर पार्वतीजी शिवजी को पति रूप में पाने के लिए घोर तपस्या कर रही थीं। श्रीरामजी की आज्ञा से सप्तर्षि उनके पास परीक्षा लेने पहुँचे और पूछा कि वे किसलिए इतना कठोर तप कर रही हैं। पार्वतीजी ने सहज स्वीकार किया कि वे सदा शिवजी को ही पति चाहती हैं। ऋषियों ने परीक्षा हेतु शिवजी के अवगुण गिनाए - उदासीन, निर्लज्ज, कुलहीन, घर-रहित - और उनके स्थान पर विष्णुजी जैसे सर्वगुण-संपन्न वर का प्रस्ताव रखा। पार्वतीजी ने निडर होकर कहा - करोड़ों जन्मों तक मेरा यही हठ रहेगा, चाहे स्वयं महेश्वर सौ बार कुछ और कहें, मैं नारदजी के उपदेश को नहीं छोड़ूँगी। उनका अटल प्रेम देखकर ऋषि प्रसन्न हुए और बोले - आप माया हैं, शिवजी भगवान हैं, आप दोनों ही समस्त जगत के माता-पिता हैं। On sage Narada's counsel, Parvati undertook severe penance to attain Shiva as her husband. At Rama's bidding, the Seven Sages came to test her and asked why she practised such hardship. Parvati readily admitted she wished only for Shiva. To test her, the sages listed Shiva's apparent faults - indifferent, shameless, without lineage or home - and proposed the all-virtuous Vishnu as an alternative groom. Fearlessly, Parvati replied: for a hundred million births this shall be my vow; even if Maheshwar himself says otherwise a hundred times, I will not abandon Narada's teaching. Delighted by her unshakeable love, the sages blessed her: you are Maya, and Shiva is Bhagwan himself - together you are the parents of the entire universe.
